Tadora is the marketing name for tadalafil, a phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitor. Tadalafil has been also marketed under the brand names Cialis and Adcirca depending on which medical condition it was purposely designed to treat.
Tadora is originally manufactured by the Indian pharmaceutical company German Remedies, which was acquired in 2015 by the pharmaceutical giant Cadila Healthcare. Tadora is produced and designed to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Also, when both ED and BHP coexist, the resulting condition can be effectively managed by Tadora. When it was introduced into the market, Tadora proved to be an effective ED drug; and this success was attributed to the quality manufacturing process and highly professional employees of German Remedies.
German Remedies is a pharmaceutical company that focuses on producing quality and affordable generic drugs. The company specializes in areas related to female healthcare, oncology, respiratory care, cardiovascular care, gastroenterology, diagnostics, and men’s health.
The company was founded in 1949 in Mumbai, India, as Trading Co., Ltd. In 1962, it became German Remedies Private Ltd. It has operated under this name as an independent company until it was acquired by Cadila Healthcare Limited, for which it is now its subsidiary. The company’s headquarters is presently based at the Mumbai Business Office of Cadila Healthcare.
In February 2003, Zydus group announced its intention to acquire German Remedies Private Ltd, and then merge it with another pharmaceutical firm, Recon Healthcare Ltd; so as to create a new flagship company that was to be called Cadila Healthcare. Zydus later acquired majority stake in German Remedies, and it successfully completed the merger. Cadila Healthcare came into existence as the fourth largest Indian pharmaceutical company. The merger also allowed German Remedies to gain access to the vast advanced research and development programs of Cadila Healthcare, and this has led to the new developments and improvement of the products manufactured by German Remedies.
Tadora is a yellow almond-shaped tablet that is coated with a thin film. The standard daily dose for managing erectile dysfunction is 20mg (one tablet) that should be taken once a day. However, if you are going to try Tadora for the first time, you are advised to start with the smaller dosage of 10mg.
HOW THE DRUG WORKS
Tadora is classified as a phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor, and this denotes its mode of action, which is the inhibition of the isozyme PDE-5. It is one of the isozymes of the enzyme phosphodiesterase, which acts to degrade the second messenger cyclic GMP (cGMP). Cyclic GMP acts on the smooth muscles of blood vessels located in the penis, where it makes the smooth muscles relax hence causing vasodilation that allows more blood to flow into the sponge-like body of the penis, the corpora cavernosa; as a result a firm erecting occurs.
PDE-5 causes degradation of cGMP, and this inhibits the penile erection. Depending on the activity of PDE-5, one can sustain an erection for a very short time or, in extreme instance, be unable to have an erection at all, which is referred to as impotence or erectile dysfunction. Therefore, when Tadora inhibits the action of PDE-5, it allows cGMP to act on penile blood vessels properly hence allowing the affected male to get and sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercours.
The efficiency of the action is determined by the half-life of the drug. A long half-life denotes that erectile dysfunction can be managed for a considerable length of time. Tadora has gained the moniker the Weekend Pill because it has a half-life of 17.5 hours which allows it to have a long duration of action, which normally lasts up to 36 hours. This affords the drug a unique advantage among other PDE-5 inhibitors such as sildenafil (marketing name: Viagra), and vardenafil (marketing name: Levitra), both of which have their effects for just about 4.5 hours.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Tadalafil is usually a well tolerated drug that in most cases doesn’t cause any adverse reactions. However, owing to the drug’s mode of action, there have been some side effects reported. The common ones are muscle aches, headache, back pain, running nose, flushing, stomach discomfort, burping, indigestion, and acid reflux. These side effects are mostly caused by the widening of the blood vessels and the subsequent increase in blood flow rate, which result from vasodilatation caused by sustained cGMP action. Once cGMP is degraded, the side effects disappear on their own. However, if you experience a persistent side effect or if the intensity of it becomes high, you should seek medical attention promptly.
Also, tadalafil, as well as other PDE-5 inhibitors, is not allowed for certain groups of patients. So before starting to take the drug, you are strongly recommended to consult the doctor.
